On the 22.12.1924 operations began just after for months of construction time. The maiden voyage carried 12 people. 

In 1948 the Fichtelberg cable car temporarily ceased operation due to lack of maintenance during World War II.

During 1955 a major overhaul of the cable car took place. It reopend in 1956. 3 years later the cable car registert over half a million passangers. 

In 1961/62 another intense reconstruction took place, the new light metal cabins can hold now each 44 passengers and the driving time was shortend to 8 minutes. 

In 1969, a further general overhaul of the cable car was carried out by Czech specialists. The record number of 885,000 passengers per year required this major overhaul.

Another major renovation took place in 1984, when one of the support towers were removed and the others where relocated.

In 1985/86 the largest general repair took place at the Fichtelberg Schwebebahn.

In 1995 another major repair was necessary. The general overhaul of the cabins and a transfer of the supporting ropes were essential.

 In 1999 the reconstruction of the Bergstation/ Mountain station building took place. The wooden construction of the station was repaired and the roof was covered with durable titanium sheet.

In 2006 a additionally invigilator was in the excisting control installed. 

The driving operation was discontinued on 01.04.2012 due to the expiry of the operating permit.

There was a general renovation in the period from 01.04.2012 to 01.11.2012. The supports towers were given a new coat of paint, the control system and all related components were renewed according to the required guidelines.

A reconstruction of the mountain station and valley station took place.

After the license was granted by the State Office for Road Construction and Transport in Dresden, the company restarted the driving operation on 02.11.2012.
